The Investigation

I've tried to make this webite a fun and positive experience, but it's important to study history as it is.
This unfortunate episode took up almost the entire decade of the 1980s.

It concerned abuse of authority, favoritism, theft, threats and intimidation, dereliction of duty and the slander of enlisted females. The Air Technicians
worked full-time while the weekenders worked part-time, but held most of the command positions. When Ed Aguiar returned to Fresno his agenda
was to have the Air-Techs be in charge of everything. His command style was dictatorial and vindictive. He purged several pilots
upon his return. Aguiar, Sebra and Hollenbeck (all Air-Techs) became "The Gang of Three." If you didn't support their agenda your
job might be in jeopardy. Most of the pilots came into work (I know I did) walking on eggshells - quietly - and actively avoided the "Gang of Three"
Maj Mike McCoy tried to work his concerns through the chain of command, but was ultimately unsuccessful because staying in the chain of command meant that
all of his reports stopped at the commander's office (Aguiar) and were ignored. He finally decided to retire and fight the fight through civillian channels.
Ultimately the State held a Board of Inquiry and investigated all of the allegations. Some 30 people were interviewed and 13 of 20 of Mike's
allegations were found to be credible and were upheld. Aguiar was forced to retire. The other two were unwillingly transferred to other bases in Calif. It took a
long to time for our unit to heal and get past all of this, but I believe we came out as a stronger, more cohesive group. We owe Mike our gratitude for
sacrificing his career in order to get the system to correct itself.
Mike McCoy passed away in 2012, and Ed Aguiar passed away in 2013
