LtCol Jan N. "Yonder" Pedersen
1946-2002

Jan had a skiing accident while on a cross-country and broke his leg with a spiral fracture
that didn't heal up quite straight. After that Jan was sometimes affectionaletly known as "Slewfoot."

At his passing, Jan was only 56 years old. He was, in the truest sense of the word, a polymath,
becoming an expert in anything that he set is mind to. He was a master at playing just about any
stringed instrument. Many of us had the pleasure of sitting in the rec hanger at the Det and for hours listening
to Jan playing his mandolin. Whether it was on skis or a snow board, he excelled. His last adventure was
wind surfing at the San Louis forebay. At the end of the day he was taking one last pass around the forebay
looking for stragglers as the Sun was setting. Unfortunately, he never made it home that night. Jan was found
the next morning.
